2010 African Fine Art
In mounting South Africa’s bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, former-President Thabo Mbeki stressed that we desire to stage an event “That will send ripples of confidence from Cape to Cairo – an event that will create social and economic opportunities throughout Africa”.
A key concept underlying the 2010 African Fine Art Collection is to leverage the FIFA World Cup™ to provide artists from Africa with a global platform to exhibit, market, and sell their works to a hitherto untapped international clientele base. The project will further bolster one of the primary goals of the African Legacy Programme of the FIFA World Cup™: to improve Africa’s global image and to combat Afro-pessimism – through the medium of fine art.
There has never been a better platform to promote the depth of African artistic talent. It is our best chance to showcase the creative wealth of our continent.
The 2010 African Fine Art Collection is being assembled in two parts:
A more accessible and commercial collection of African fine art ranges; and
A pioneering Pan African exhibition professionally curated by a team of five leading South African experts.
2010 African Fine Art ranges
These will include sculptures, art photographs, paintings, etchings and many other media. The focus of this segment of our website is firmly on these more commercial ranges – the first of which are already available for acquisition.
2010 Pan African Fine Art Exhibition
The Pan African exhibition will be hosted during the World Cup in one of the largest Host Cities as an Official Parallel Event. Details about the Pan African exhibition will be announced by the Host City concerned in the near future.
The works assembled for the 2010 African Fine Art Collection take on many forms: from sculptures, to painting, to photography - the collection embodies the true diversity of African beauty and directly mirrors the joy and grace of football itself.
